The Sawsl is a weapon dating back to the early days of the Fall. While originally scorned by Northern soldiers as a primitive and inelegant tool, more advanced versions were eventually made, such as the legendary Swordbreaker. Relatively easy to repair and keep powered, the sawsl is considered a good all around melee weapon for dealing with the various creatures that call the Outlands home.

The sawsl uses a round motor and piston to pump two blades up and down, the crosscut providing much of the extra power. Running on a relatively low charge chemical battery, sawsls can use both Founder power cells and post Fall chemical designs. The components are fairly rugged and reliable, resulting in the blades being the major weak point of the design.

While some prefer the style of the northern made heat blades, sawsls have earned their place among many Outlander’s personal armories, and scavengers are known to make their own versions of the weapon. Most Outlands sawsls use inferior Carthide Steel for their blades, so carrying replacement ones is a must.
